Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Rhode Island (1707-1785) who served as the colony's governor in the 1750s and 1760s. Manuscript DS, signed “Step. Hopkins, Gov'r,” one page, 6.5 x 4, December 15, 1755. Pay order issued to Thomas Richardson, the general treasurer of Rhode Island, directing him to pay unto Thomas Vernon the sum of "Four pounds Seventeen Shillings & 9d for postage of Letters & charge the Colony." Signed at the conclusion by Hopkins as the colonial governor of Rhode Island. Archivally mounted, matted, and framed to an overall size of 12.75 x 10.75. In very good to fine condition, with staining along the top edge.
