Description

Two letters, both to executives of the Civil War Centennial Commission: a TLS as president, signed "D. E.," one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, October 2, 1958, in part: "Thank you for sending me a copy of the new 'Guide' for the Observance of the Centennial of the Civil War. I am delighted that your national campaign is proceeding to your satisfaction"; and a TLS signed "Ike," one page, 7 x 10.5, personal letterhead, September 5, 1961, in part: "Thanks so much for everything you did personally to make my participation in the Rededication ceremonies of the Confederate Cemetery in Hagerstown such an enjoyable occasion. I am of course, as I have just written General Grant, deeply complimented by the award of the Gold Medal of the Commission." In overall fine condition.
