ALS, one page, 6 x 8, Piers Court letterhead, January 22, 1953. Handwritten letter to publisher Stanley Salmen, in full: "i have just returned from India to find your very kind Christmas present, a bound copy of Men at Arms, waiting for me. Thank you very much indeed. I think it is very clear of you to have managed to sell so many copies. Anyway it is all my own work, unlike 'Position Unknown' whose history has greatly amused me. It is good news that you are coming to England. I will not (unless you feel you can bear it) expect you here where the winter months are very cold for one used to steam heating, but I will come to London in the hope that you will dine with me there." The unusual addition of a transcription has been added below each line in red type; whether it is Salmen, Waugh, or a secretary is uncertain. In fine condition.
