Description

Extremely rare 1774 autograph by Pennsylvania signer George Taylor

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1716-1781). Partial ADS, signed “Geo. Taylor,” one page, 4.5 x 2.75, December 6, 1774. Taylor pens a receipt, in full: "Receiv'd 6th December 1774 from Thomas Adamson One Hundred Pounds being the first payment for the Land sold him as of the above agreement." A fragment of what appears to be the aforementioned 'above agreement' of the land deal appears on the reverse, signed by William Armstrong and Charles Craig, reading, "And Signed Sealed and Delivered by the said Lewis Gordon the fifteenth day of October Anno 1774 in the presences of Sam'l Foulke, John Shotesbury." Mounted and matted to an overall size of 10.75 x 8. In very good condition, with soling, light toning, and three vertical folds. Taylor ranks among the rarest Declaration signers, due in part to his limited role in public life, and his death prior to American victory in the Revolutionary War.
