Description

American statesman (1814-1886) who served as Governor of New York and who was the unsuccessful Democratic presidential candidate in the infamous disputed election of 1876. LS signed “S. J. Tilden,” two pages, 4.5 x 6.75, Graystone letterhead, January 5, 1885. Letter to Secretary of the Treasury Hugh McCulloch, in part: "I will be obliged to you if you will send me a pamphlet copy of your Annual Report, and also the Reports of the Internal Revenue Department, and of the Comptroller of the Currency." In fine condition.
