American planter, soldier, and politician from Virginia (1768-1828) who married Thomas Jefferson's oldest daughter, Martha, and served as a member of both houses of the Virginia General Assembly, a representative in the US Congress, and as governor of Virginia. Autograph document signed in the third-person, "Thos. M. Randolph," one page both sides, 7.5 x 9.75, no date. Legal document concerning land boundaries prepared for the wealthy Virginia landowner, Louis Girardin, in part: "Thos. M. Randolph, with most respectful compliments recommends to Mr. Girardin to join the inclosed plats in one upon the scale he has taken and then to apply the boundary of his platy from No. 6 to 23 inclusive so that 23 shall coincide in the same number…The contents of it taken from the whole of the united plat should leave 326 3.4 acres. Again the contents of the first or Western part should when taken away leave 291 acres. T.M.R. is busily engaged for Mr. Girardin. He will call today or tomorrow certainly. He has not yet received the plat from the surveyor." In very good to fine condition, with splitting to the folds.
