Partly-printed vellum DS as president, signed “J. Q. Adams,” one page, 13.25 x 17, March 21, 1826. President Adams appoints William M. Hunter as "a Master Commandant in the Navy in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by President Adams and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Samuel L. Southard. The white Navy Department seal affixed at the bottom remains fully intact. In fine condition. A career Navy officer, Hunter's War of 1812 service included a cruise aboard the USS Constitution; he would later command the USS Franklin at Boston.
