Description

Ike attends an International Horse Show

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, October 8, 1958. Letter to Major General William H. Abendroth, in full: "Thank you very much for coming to my office yesterday morning, with Floyd Akers, to present to me a complimentary box for the coming International Horse Show. I enjoyed our discussion, and I deeply appreciate your kindness in making tickets for the various performances available to Mrs. Eisenhower and myself. With best wishes for a most successful Show, and warm regards." Initialed by Abendroth in the upper right corner. In fine condition, with light creasing to the upper right corner. Accompanied by three unsigned original vintage 10 x 8 photos of Eisenhower with General Abendroth: one at the White House receiving the tickets, and two at the D.C. Armory watching the horse show.

General Abendroth was Commanding General of the Army National Guard during the late 1950s to 1968. His headquarters were located at the D.C. Armory, the site of JFK's Inaugural Ball and many Washington International Horse Shows (WIHS). Floyd Akers was part owner of the Washington Senators, Chairman of the D.C. Armory Board, and President of the local Cadillac company that serviced the Cadillacs used by the White House.
