(Windsor McCay, 1914) Brilliant original production drawing of Gertie and Jumbo the mastodon from Gertie the Dinosaur, which depicts the Brontosaurus peering down at a wooly mammoth as it walks by. Accomplished in ink on 7.5 x 6 rice paper marked "75" in the lower right corner, and matted to an overall size of 9.5 x 7.5. In fine condition, with a small tear to upper left corner, light overall wrinkling, and a few light stains; these flaws are minimal and scarcely detract from the beautifully rendered prehistoric scene. In the cartoon, Jumbo walks across the scene in front of Gertie, who picks him up by the tail and flings him into the lake in the background. While the dinosaur dances in triumph, Jumbo squirts her with water. Gertie then retaliates by throwing a rock at him. McCay made 10,000 drawings in the creation of the film, of which only 400 are known to have survived, making this a rare and very desirable depiction of these two prehistoric characters.
