Collection of four items related to Al Worden’s years as a student at Jackson High School in Jackson, Michigan. The first is Worden’s 1950 The Reflector senior yearbook, hardcover, 8 x 11, 112 pages, that features his ownership signature on the opening page, “Al Worden, 25-A.” Worden is pictured as the president of the student government on page 16, as a member of the student council on page 19, and his senior picture can be found on page 50.
The second is Worden’s “Jackson High School, Class of 1950” graduation diploma, 11 x 8.5, which reads: “This is to certify that Alfred Merrill Worden has completed the requirements for graduation as prescribed by the board of education and is entitled to this diploma…this sixteenth day of June 1950.”
The third and fourth items are a bronze American Legion School Award medal, and a Wolverine Boys’ State attendance certificate, issued by the American Legion to “Alfred M. Worden,” who attended Wolverine Boys’ State from June 16-24, 1949, “and served with honor in the office of City Councilman.” In overall fine condition, with some wear to the yearbook cover and to the edges of the Wolverine Boys’ State certificate.
Accompanied by a wooden plaque from “The Students of Jackson High School,” which designates Worden as “A Most Distinguished Graduate” on October 20, 1971”; and a separate blue plastic plaque deeming Worden a “Hometown Hero.” A wonderful assemblage of items that very clearly presage Worden's pathway towards greatness.
From the collection of Apollo 15 CMP Al Worden, and accompanied by a letter of provenance from his daughter Alison (Worden) Penczak.
