"I realize how fortunate I am to have lived so long as to see my dear & only child, President of the U.S."

Mother (1854-1941) of Franklin D. Roosevelt. ALS signed “Sara D. Roosevelt,” one page both sides, 5.75 x 6.75, Hyde Park letterhead, December 6, 1936. Handwritten letter to Margaret Irene Lynch, in full: "Thank you for your kind letter & the picture of myself as a little girl—& for the two poems: 'Somebody's Mother' & 'Goodnight.' I think they are lovely & show a very sweet tender feeling. I realize how fortunate I am to have lived so long as to see my dear & only child, President of the U.S. & I know he will do all he possibly can for the Nation." In good to very good condition, with heavy overall creasing and staining. Accompanied by the original hand-addressed mailing envelope.
