Description

Custom-made tan high-heeled boots worn by Prince, reinforced to support his on-stage splits and worn in the 1998 Mel B interview

Prince's custom-made tan high-heeled boots, crafted by famous Sunset Boulevard cobbler shop Andre No. 1, who made about 3,000 pairs of shoes and boots for Prince over the course of two decades. Prince is seen wearing these boots in his 1998 interview with Mel B at Paisley Park. The tan fabric boots measure an overall 6.5″ tall (inclusive of the 4″ wooden heels), with zippered upper and rubber soles. Both insoles have the "Andre #1, Made in L.A., U.S.A." tags. The tall heels are reinforced with metal brackets, a design used for Prince's stage-used shoes so that they would not break during his energetic performances. In fine condition, with wear from use.

Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Gary Kazanchyan, CEO of Andre No. 1, in part: "These tan booties were worn by Prince. they were later returned to me to have the heels redone as they were worn out but Prince decided he didn't want them anymore and changed to a totally different style for a new era." Vogue profiled Kazanchyan's work with Prince in 2018, noting that 'because Prince’s performances required intense movement, the heel was supported with a stainless steel bar, so as to ensure that it wouldn’t snap off when he was coming back up from a split.'
