King of France from 1824 to 1830, whose attempt to restore absolute rule led to his overthrow in the July Revolution. Vellum manuscript DS in French, signed “Charles Philippe,” one page, 9.75 x 14.75, September 12, 1798. In part: "We attest and certify that Julien Marie Francois Duverger, Knight, King's Guard, has given proofs marking attachment, fidelity and devotion to the Person of the King, Louis XVI, our august brother, before and during the Revolution and notably in the unfortunate days of October 5 and 6, 1789. That afterwards he came to join us at Turin to cooperate to the best of his ability, under our orders, in everything that could be the most useful to the good of His August and Very Magnanimous Sovereign, and that since that time he has not ceased, at war and in all other circumstances to which he found himself, to conduct himself as a Loyal Gentleman and a Faithful Subject. In consequence of which, wanting to treat him favorably, we recommend him very particularly to all the sovereigns in those territory he might happen to pass, or sojourn more or less time, or to their Ministers, that they give him every aid and assistance." In very good to fine condition, with creasing, soiling, and light toning.
