Original pencil sketch of geometric designs accomplished by Jack Ruby on a 7 x 4 sheet, done while imprisoned at Dallas County Jail in 1963, signed and inscribed on the reverse in ballpoint to his prison bodyguard, “To Ray Pennington, My very, very special guard, Sincerely, Jack Ruby, 1965.” In fine condition, with soiling to the signed side.
According to Pennington: ‘[Ruby] worked on these drawings when he was nervous, restless, or aggravated about something. Just when the mood hit him—he would work until he got tired or sleepy. He sharpened his pencil constantly on a scratch piece of paper…he never gave any reason for folding the paper around the edge…He could make phone calls but would hesitate to do so because 'they' would know who his family and friends were. 'They' would come & kill his family and friends. He never told me who 'they' were.’
