Description

(Walt Disney Studios/Landmark Entertainment, 1987) Beautifully rendered original concept artwork by famed Disney animator Marc Davis for a proposed theme park in Valencia, California. The scene is entitled “The Hedgehog's Septet,” and it shows the referenced hedgehog playing the upright bass and surrounded by other animal musicians, such as a dog, cat, badger, donkey, fox, and porcupine. Accomplished in ink and watercolor on 16.5 x 13.75 artist paper, which is signed in the lower right, "Marc Davis, 87." Framed to an overall size of 18.25 x 15.5. In fine condition.

Landmark Entertainment, a global entertainment design group founded in 1980, hired Davis for a series of theme park design jobs in 1987. Although the Valencia park never came to fruition, a complete model of this proposed park was constructed and Davis created a variety of potential character designs; the theme park’s main character would have been based on Mark Twain's ‘The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.’ This would be some of the last artwork that Davis would ever complete.
