American military officer (1821-1898) who is most noted for his role in the American Civil War. Although less well known than other Union commanders, he was nonetheless considered an able battlefield commander. Rare 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Christopher C. Augur in his military uniform, signed in the designated lower border in ink, "C. C. Augur, Maj. Genl." Published by Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries of New York and Washington, D.C. In very good to fine condition, with light staining to the lower border, and light scuffing and silvering to the image.
