Description

"I am highly honored that I was asked to do the Aaron Copland's 'A Lincoln Portrait'"

TLS signed “Gerald R. Ford,” one page, 6.25 x 8.5, personal letterhead, February 20, 1985. Letter to Donald Gibson, in part: "Your very special letter urging that I accept the invitation to appear with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, on August 5th, has been received. Most regrettably, I must respectfully decline. My travel schedule for all of 1985 is horrendously overloaded. I am highly honored that I was asked to do the Aaron Copland's 'A Lincoln Portrait.' Please understand my inability to accept." In fine condition. Aaron Copland's 'Lincoln Portrait'—a classical orchestral work narrated with the reading of excerpts of Abraham Lincoln's great documents, including the Gettysburg Address—debuted with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 1942, and prominent figures are traditionally invited to narrate.
