ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4 x 6, Sagamore Hill letterhead, November 9, 1898. Letter concerning a photograph, written the day after he had been elected Governor of New York. In full: "When I wrote you about Falk’s picture, I had not seen this one of Rockwood, which I prefer; so I will get you to put this one in. Can the stenographer come out here Friday?" In fine condition.
Supporters had used B.J. Falk’s folded-arm bust portrait of Col. Roosevelt in his U.S.V. Rough Rider uniform during the gubernatorial campaign. After circulation of the Falk photograph Roosevelt apparently saw George C. Rockwood’s full-length portrait of him in uniform with one arm on his hip, which he preferred. Here, he evidently hopes to have it used in a publication; the pose would be featured as the frontispiece in Big Game Hunting in the Rockies and On the Great Plains, published by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1899.
