Description

Sought-after flown American flag, 6.25 x 4, carried to the moon aboard the Lunar Module Falcon during the historic Apollo 15 mission. The flag is mounted with an embroidered patch and two color photos of the mission launch and a lunar EVA, with the lower border of the mount signed in black felt tip by astronauts Dave Scott, Jim Irwin, and Al Worden, with the latter adding an inscription: “To Stretch Flanagan with warmest personal regards from the crew of Apollo 15 and many thanks for your help, support, and friendship since the flight.” Framed to an overall size of 21.5 x 17.5. In fine condition, with adhesive toning to reverse of flag.

Originates from the personal collection of longtime NASA employee Robert B. 'Stretch' Flanagan, a Senior Security Specialist who accompanied the Apollo astronauts on their post-flight goodwill world tours. He was nicknamed ‘Stretch’ on account of his 6´6″ height.
