ALS signed “G. Bernard Shaw,” one page, 3.5 x 4.5, personal letterhead, October 18, 1920. Letter to Norman MacDermott of Hampstead's Everyman Theatre, concerning the London premiere of his play Heartbreak House. In full: "Wildly impossible. The first performance of H.H. in London will mean a month's hard work for me. I cannot afford to touch it without a guarantee of £1000, win, lose, or draw. Once over that hurdle, the Repertory Theatres can do their worst." Addressed on the reverse in Shaw's hand. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges, and a couple of light stains. Heartbreak House was first presented in England at the Royal Court on October 18, 1921.
