Official White House photographer Cecil W. Stoughton's personal photo album containing 23 original vintage color 8 x 10 photos of President John F. Kennedy's visit to Cape Canaveral on November 16, 1963, just days before being assassinated. The red calf leather photo album is stamped with decorative tooling on the front and back, with the spine stamped with Stoughton's initials, "CWS," and a title, "Florida Trip, Nov. 1963." Almost all are hand-inscribed on the reverse as part of Stoughton's unique numbering and filing system.
Documenting Kennedy's visit to NASA to observe progress amidst the space race, subjects of these images include: President Kennedy and Florida Senator George Smathers with a model of the Saturn I rocket; President Kennedy and audience members briefed in front of rocket models during the Manned Lunar Landing Program lecture by Dr. Mueller; JFK and Rear Admiral Vernon L. Lowrance aboard the U.S.S. Observation Island; Kennedy greeting officers and other dignitaries; President Kennedy meeting astronauts Gordon Cooper and Gus Grissom at the Complex 37 Launch Control Center; a panoramic view of the marshlands surrounding Cape Canaveral; the arrival of the helicopter carrying President Kennedy; and President Kennedy in an open-top limousine at Cape Canaveral, seated with Major General Leighton I. Davis and NASA Administrator James Webb. In very good to fine condition, with fading to some photos and the first sleeve in the album discolored, but the photo unaffected.
