Description

French army officer and composer (1760-1836) who wrote the words and music to the French national anthem, La Marseillaise. ALS in French, signed “R. de Lisle,” one page, 5 x 7.75, January 12, 1825. A literary letter, in part (translated): "Do you remember me…and that difficult literary compilation? It is finished now and ready to be published. It will appear in the course of the week. Are you still available for a few subscriptions? If so, let me know the number of copies you think you may need." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing, a tear to the upper left edge, a faint stain to the bottom edge, and seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
