TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, August 7, 1967. Letter to Robert L. Bennett, a Native American lawyer and a commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, in full: "I was pleased to hear of your meeting with the Seneca Indians on July 31. I hope that the discussions were productive concerning the question of termination. Public Law 88-533 requires the Bureau to present a termination bill to the Congress before August 31, 1967. I would appreciate your sending me a copy of the bill prior to that time so that I may study it. I would also appreciate it if you would submit the bill to the Seneca Nation before the 31st so they might familiarize themselves with it and consult with you about any changes they think advisable." In very good to fine condition, with overall creasing, and staple hole to the upper left corner. Public Law 88-533 is an act to 'authorize payment for certain interests in lands within the Allegany Indian Reservation in New York, required by the United States for the Allegheny River (Kinzua Dam) project, to provide for the relocation, rehabilitation, social and economic development of the members of the Seneca Nation, and for other purposes.'
