English scientist, engineer and inventor (1887-1979) who is best known for inventing the bouncing bomb used by the Royal Air Force in Operation Chastise (the 'Dambusters' raid) to attack the dams of the Ruhr Valley during World War II; other inventions were his version of the geodetic airframe and the earthquake bomb. Four glossy photos, 7.75 x 8.75 and 10 x 8, each signed in blue ink or felt tip by Barnes Wallis, including: a photo of Wallis posing with a model of his Vickers Type 010 or ‘Swallow’ supersonic aircraft; a photo of the R100 airship soaring high above a city, with signatures of several others inherent to the original photograph; a photo of the anchored R100 airship; and another of the R100 in flight. In overall very good to fine condition, with creasing to the portrait.
