Description

(Walt Disney Studios, 1953) Incredible original concept storyboard painting by Mary Blair for Peter Pan, which depicts a magical bird’s-eye view of Neverland. From the perspective of perhaps Peter Pan or one of the Darling children flying high above, the floating island emerges below, its central Neverpeak Mountain wrapped in purple cloud, its green floor scattered with Indian tipis, and the great brig the Jolly Roger anchored alone in Pirate’s Cove. The magical trail and glow of Tinker Bell appears unmistakable in the foreground. Accomplished in tempera and watercolor on a 10 x 9 illustration board. In fine condition, with light overall scuffing and tack holes to corners. This is arguably the most appealing Neverland concept painting that we have ever offered.

Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions, which includes It's a Small World and, her largest work ever, the multi-story mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
