Politician (1921-1978) who served as the second elected governor of the United States Virgin Islands from 1975 to 1978. TLS signed “Cyril E. King,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Government of the Virgin Islands of the United States letterhead, December 3, 1963. Letter declining an invitation due to the assassination of President Kennedy, in part: "Thank you for your kind invitation as well as for the admission and raffle tickets for the Tenth Annual Hospital Ball. Due to the tragic and untimely death of President John F. Kennedy and, as a mark of respect to his memory, I have decided not to accept any engagement during the one-month period of mourning as proclaimed on November 23, 1963." The stapled packet of raffle tickets with admission pass is included. In very good to fine condition, with creasing, staining, and an edge tear to the letter; the tickets themselves are fine.
