TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Supreme Court of the United States letterhead, May 4, 1928. Letter to Frederic Adrian Delano, a philanthropist, railroad president, and the uncle to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in full: "I am delighted to see your name as President of the American Civic Association, and to get a communication indicating that your Association is studying preventive planning measures for the saving of trees in Washington and for the establishment of the Great Falls Park and its environs. Since I was in the White House, and while there, I [have been] very anxious to secure for Federal ownership and occupancy the whole tract on the other side of the Potomac, including the Palisades of that river clear down to Fort Myer. I think if Congress would be willing to buy up all that property, as it ought to, we could secure from Virginia cession of jurisdiction over the property bought so that it could be policed by the Federal Government." In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds and overall creasing.
