Irish-born Israeli politician (1918-1997) who served as president from 1983-1993. A staunch defender of Israeli security, he established his political reputation as a military intelligence leader during the Six-Day War. Two TLSs, both signed "Vivian," one page, 6.25 x 8.5, State of Israel and President of Israel letterhead, dated 1983 and 1985, both addressed to New York Senator Daniel P. Moynihan. The earlier letter, July 24, 1983, in part: "I am delighted to hear that you, and possibly Liz, will be coming this winter. Please let us know well in advance, so that we can entertain you in a manner befitting the guest and the occasion"; and the second letter, March 14, 1985, in full: "Thank you very much for your letter dated 22nd February, 1985, with the excerpt from the Washington Post about Liz's 'Passage to India.' We found the account fascinating. Perhaps Liz would like to come to Israel to dig up a few gardens." In overall fine condition.
