Description

Collection of nine letters from Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman to Tony Glover, dating from 1964 to 1972, filled with great music industry content. A sampling of quotes: "Thanks for the letter and the lyrics to the song. We'll be happy to copyright it, and it's no hassle at all. We will need the tape sample so that we can have a lead sheet made of the music. It is impossible to copyright just the words without the music"; "Assuming that we want to record the group, 1) We will face the problem of drummer and bass guitar, vis-a-vis union, at that time. 2) It is possible to double-track a harp. 3) I would prefer a group name. However, I think that 'Little Sun' as part of a group name is a good idea. 'Nite Cats' doesn't devastate me"; "I think you are on the road to something, but as we both know, it is far from beginning to assume any final shape…A musical comment: I think that there has to be much more in the way of driving vocal sounds supported by tighter rhythm instrumentation"; "I am interested in a good R&B group, even if Barry Goldwater is fronting it…Let me stress that I would like as much original material as you can come up with, because I think this strengthens your chances of getting heard. I certainly have no objection to any good Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and all tunes that you can rework into something fresh and exciting"; "Never, never have I intentionally tried to diminish you or your value to Koerner, Ray and Glover…I cannot nor will I try to explain why the back of the record jacket turned out the way it did…There will be at some time a future run of covers and back-liners on the Dave Ray album and your name will be bigger, not as a sop to you but because you really deserve it." One letter initialed as signed by a secretary. In overall fine condition. From the Tony Glover Collection.
