Description

Partly-printed DS, signed “James Madison” as president and “Jas. Monroe” as secretary of state, one page, 16.25 x 10.25, no date but circa 1811-1817. Unusual ship's pass left blank but signed at the conclusion by President Madison and countersigned by Secretary of State Monroe. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. In very good condition, with irregular light toning, a few small stains, and two tears to the right edge; the signatures are essentially unaffected by any flaws. From the collection of Stephen Adamson.
