Description

ALS signed “Bill Carrigan,” one page, 6 x 7, personal letterhead, November 7, 1922. Letter to Red Sox owner H. H. Frazee, in full: "Replying to your letter, will be in Boston Nov. 14, 15, 16, unless something unexpected happens. Hoping to see at that time." In very good to fine condition, with creasing to the upper left corner, and slightly irregular light toning. Accompanied by Frazee's retained carbon copy of his letter to Carrigan, asking: "Have your business interests so changed and shaped themselves that you would care to return to baseball?"

Carrigan had served as Boston's manager from 1913-1916, when Frazee bought the team, and would return to the position from 1927-1929. In the interim, Carrigan dedicated his time to opening movie and vaudeville theaters around New England—presenting an interesting symmetry to Frazee, whose principal pursuits were in the theatrical business. From the collection of Stephen Adamson.
