Description

Partly-printed DS, signed “G. Welles,” one page, 8 x 10, May 11, 1865. Official order from the Navy Department for Lieutenant Commander John G. Walker to proceed "to New York, without delay, and report to rear Admiral Paulding for the command of the U.S. Steamer Shawmut, (4th Rate)." Signed at the conclusion by Welles as Secretary of the Navy, and countersigned by Rear Admiral Charles H. Bell. In fine condition. From the collection of Stephen Adamson.
