Description

Anglo-Irish preacher, soldier, statesman, diplomat, and spy, after whom Downing Street in London is named (1623-1684). Vellum manuscript DS, signed “G. Downing,” one page, 13.25 x 2, October 1665. Document signed by Downing as Teller of Receipts for the Exchequer. In fine condition, with usual wrinkling to the vellum. From the collection of Stephen Adamson.
