"The American people understand the danger drugs pose to our society"

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, September 12, 1989. Letter to Republican National Committeeman Dick Taylor about the drug problem in the U.S. In part: "Lee Atwater was kind enough to send me your comments following my speech on the drug problem… The public reaction to our strategy appears to be quite positive to this point. The American people understand the danger drugs pose to our society, and I feel they also recognize the type of national, and personal, commitment that will be necessary to combat this evil." He adds a handwritten postscript: "Your right on the 'tax' approach by the Dems." In very good to fine condition, with blocks of toning from prior display.
