Description

Eldest son of Robert E. Lee, who served as a Confederate general and aide-de-camp to Jefferson Davis (1832-1913). ALS signed “G. W. C. Lee,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, September 9, 1884. Letter to family friend A. R. Pendleton in Winchester, Virginia, in part: "Upon my return here the other day, I found your letter of the 26th ult. It would give me the greatest pleasure to accept your kind invitation if I could go to your city during the session of the coming council; but I have been obliged to be away so much, this year, from my classes, and other duties, here, that I should not like to be absent again except in case of absolute necessity." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Lee's hand.
