Description

Master printer (1751-1823) known for having published the earliest American version of the Encyclopædia Britannica, and the first in the United States to publish a complete Hebrew Bible. Rare ALS, one page, 8 x 9.75, June 3, 1817. Letter to bookseller Hezekiah Howe, in part: "There has been an Agricultural Almanack published here by Mr. Solomon Conrad at 12 1/2 cents, this has prevented the sale of yours, and as there is no prospect of sale now I thought best to return them. The Botanical Dictionary has nearly sold out, perhaps a very few more may sell with summer…Please send me two copies of the Agricultural Society's (of Connecticut) transactions." Dobson also incorporates his signature into a statement in the upper margin. In very good to fine condition, with light staining along the hinge, and seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
