Two TLSs from Sandra Day O'Connor, both one page, 8.5 x 11, Court of Appeals, State of Arizona letterhead, dated July 7 and August 5, 1981, both addressed to Mark Adams of St. Louis, Missouri. The earlier letter, in part: "I pray that I will be a credit to the court, to all my friends and family, and to the people of the nation"; and the second, in part: "I pray that, if confirmed, I can serve the Court and the nation well." In overall fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelopes. Making good on his promise to appoint the first woman to the Supreme Court, President Reagan formally nominated O'Connor on August 19, 1981; a month later, on September 21st, O'Connor was confirmed by the U.S. Senate with a vote of 99-0.
