Description

US treasurer during the Civil War who is credited with bringing women into the civil service (1802-1890). Two items: a Mohawk Valley Bank pay order in the amount of $79.60, filled out and signed by Spinner as cashier, "F. E. Spinner"; and an ALS signed "F. E. Spinner," one page, August 12, 1887, in part: "Our correspondence has been a comedy of errors. You directed your letter to me at my Mohawk, N.Y. home. From there it was forwarded to my Address, Jacksonville Fla., and from there to me here—In my answer, I dated May instead of June, and directed to 'Bloomfield' instead of Plainfield." In overall fine condition.
