E-mu EMAX II 16-bit sampling synth rack-mount from Prince’s Paisley Park Studios, 19.25 x 5.25 x 13.5, with back side featuring a pair of parts labels: “Property of PRN Music Corp. (612) 474-6630, PM 16169” and “PRN Productions, 7801 Audubon Rd., Chanhassen, MN, 55317, 005001.” The back also features an E-mu Systems, Inc. label, “Model # 2206, Serial # 1190189,” and features several ports and jacks for “Foot Switch 1,” “Foot Switch 2,” “Computer Interface,” “MIDI Input,” “MIDI Output/Thru,” “Clock Input,” and “Clock Output,” with bottom section bearing a port for “Sample Input” and a row of 10 outputs. The face features sliding knobs for “Volume” and “Data,” a floppy disk drive, a sequencer, and modules for “Master,” “Sample,” “Digital Processing,” “Preset Management,” “Preset Definition,” and “Dynamic Processing.” Included with the EMAX II rack is a set of 15 Maxwell Super RD II Series floppy disks, each marked in black felt tip and containing drum samples taken from the original master tapes for seven Prince songs: “Babystar,” “Kiss,” “Crazy,” “Cream,” “Daddy Pop,” “Diamonds,” and “Thunder.” Accompanied by two EMAX II operating and expansion software discs, and the rack includes the original power cord. In overall very good to fine condition, with scuffs, marks, and strips of tape to rack top. The online image shows the EMAX II sitting on top of the outboard rack on the right side in Studio A at Paisley Park.
