Description

ALS in French, one page, 8 x 10.5, February 24, no year (circa 1950s). Written from the French commune Cabris, in full (translated): "I am still far from Paris under treatment until the end of March. I shall return at that time and it will then be possible to entrust to V. some secretarial work for me. That would not keep her busy all day long, but would constitute for her some steady occupation. I also fear that I shall not be able to assure her a royal salary: I have infinite expenses. If it is at all convenient for you, I would very much appreciate your telling me what I ought to do: write or wait until my return. Unless you would prefer to transmit this offer yourself. But, I am always at your disposal, and hers." In fine condition, with two tiny stains within the text. The village of Cabris has long appealed to many of France's great writers, including Camus who spent time here on several occasions during the 1950s. Other notable scribes include Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who spent his childhood holidays here in the early 20th century, and André Gide, who stayed here on returning from his journey to Egypt in 1940.
