Description

United States Army officer (1895-1965) who saw distinguished active service during World War II; between 1943-45, he successively commanded the 3rd Infantry Division, VI Corps, Fifteenth Army, and Fifth Army. Scarce vintage WW2-era matte-finish 7.5 x 10.5 photo of an attractive oil portrait of General Truscott, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen, "To Harry Abendrath, with warm regards, L. K. Truscott, Jr.” Considerably superstitious, Truscott was known to rewear the same wardrobe whenever he engaged in combat: a leather jacket, pink pants, and 'lucky boots'; he also began wearing a white scarf during the Sicilian campaign; much of his 'special clothing' can be viewed in this picture. Reverse bears German Agfa-Brovira watermarks. In fine condition. The first time we have offered Truscott in any signed format.
