Flown American flag carried aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia on STS-1, 5.75 x 4, affixed to an 8.5 x 11 presentation certificate bearing pre-printed facsimile signatures of the crew, reading: "Presented to Elsie M. Easley / This flag was flown aboard Space Shuttle 'Columbia' (STS-1), April 12-14, 1981. It is presented to you in recognition of the significant contribution you made to the success of the mission." In fine condition, with a trimmed top edge and typical uniform toning to the flag due to adhesive. Easley was the Deputy Chief of the Logistics Division and the second highest ranking woman manager at JSC, who oversaw a working force of 210 civil service and contractor employees and a 30,000 item property inventory valued at $350 million. The Logistics Division also handles transportation, travel, and supply functions for the Center.
