Letter to "Maj'r Gen'l Thomas, Commanding U.S. Forces &c at Chattanooga," in full: "Allow me to present to you Mrs. C. Jones, who goes out by permission and who is kind enough to take in her care, for me, a trunk, directed to my brother Mr. J. W. Childress, Griffin, Geo. The approved permits, I have given to Mrs. Jones. You may see it contains, Ladies wearing apparel. You will do me a great kindness to pass it with the 'Flag of Truce,' a favor that will be gratefully acknowledged by me."
