Description

"I was borrowed from LIFE to do those portraits since the editors know I like taking photographs of people"

German-American photographer and photojournalist (1898-1995) best known for his image of the famous V-J Day kiss in Times Square. Two TLSs by Alfred Eisenstaedt, each one page, Life Magazine letterhead, 1958 and 1959. The first, in part: "Regarding the U.S. Elders story in TIME, I was borrowed from LIFE to do those portraits since the editors know I like taking photographs of people. It might interest you to know that I reeled 11,000 miles in fifteen days to complete that portfolio. This is quite an accomplishment, even for me. At the present time, I am working on a theatre story in New York." The second, in part: "A few days ago I returned from the Khrushchev assignment and this is one of my first chances to fill your request." In very good to fine condition, with edge creasing to the later letter, and dampstaining and trimmed bottom edge to the earlier letter.
