Description

"The evil of Richard Nixon's wrongs"

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Harvard Law School letterhead, March 16, 1995. Letter to Dale Parry, in part: "You ask whether Richard Nixon could have become a dictator. My answer would be strongly negative. In the fall of 1973, there were a number of rumors that he might use the military to move strongly in that direction. I never put much stock in them chiefly because I felt clearly that the military would not go along even in the highly unlikely event that his mind should run in that direction. The evil of Richard Nixon's wrongs, in addition to the immediate misdoings, were two: (1) he went far to destroy confidence in the government, a trend which is running rampant; (2) he attempted to set the presidency and himself above the law in violation of the essential principle that even the President is subject to law." In fine condition.
