Vintage fountain pen signatures of Noël Leslie, Countess of Rothes, "Noel Rothes, July 7, 1912," and "Gladys Cherry, July 7, 1912," on an off-white 5 x 6.25 album page, which is also signed by businessman, philanthropist, and member of the prominent Astor family, Vincent Astor. In very good to fine condition, with a block of toning touching both signatures.
Noël Leslie and her cousin Gladys Cherry were rooming together on the Titanic when the ship struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912. An hour after the collision, the women were lowered from the port side of the ship in Lifeboat 8. Leslie quickly assumed command of the tiller and steered for over an hour, in concert with Able Seaman Tom Jones, before asking Cherry to take over while she tended to the other women on board. Lifeboat 8 was picked up by the RMS Carpathia early the next morning, and both Leslie and Cherry were deemed heroines of the Titanic disaster.
