Description

The Clash invade New York in 1981, rock the Bond International Casino

Huge original color 52.25 x 39.25 promotional poster for a series of concerts by The Clash at the Bond International Casino in New York City in late May-early June 1981, featuring the band's logo in black lettering against a yellow background with large red star, with text to upper left citing the shows as their "Only American Appearance," and the upper right listing the scheduled dates as May 28-31, and June 1-3 and 5th. Rolled, linen-backed, and professionally restored to near fine condition.

The Clash played a series of 17 concerts at the Bond International Casino in New York City in May and June 1981 in support of their ambitious fourth album Sandinista! Eight shows were originally scheduled, but given the venue's legal capacity limit of 1750, the concerts were wantonly oversold and the New York City Fire Department was forced to cancel the Saturday, May 30th performance. The Clash condemned the greed of the promoters while conversely doubling the original booking with a total of 17 dates extending through June 13th. An historic poster that marks The Clash's rise from 'next big thing' to one of the biggest bands in the world.
