Description

In the Dark strikes gold, presented to the Dead's longtime manager

Official RIAA flower hologram-style gold sales award presented "to Jon McIntire to commemorate the sale of more than 500,000 copies of the Arista Records album and cassette 'In the Dark.'" Framed with its disc, cassette, plate, and small album cover image to an overall size of 17 x 21. In fine condition. Includes a laminated 'Access All Areas' guest pass for the Grateful Dead's 1991 Spring Tour, with reverse issued to Jon McIntire.

McIntire managed the Grateful Dead from 1970 to 1974, during which period the band released some of its most significant albums, including Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty. After handling Bob Weir’s solo career for a decade, McIntire returned to manage the Dead again, from 1984 to 1990. McIntire is also responsible for helping cultivate the 'Deadhead' community; before the release of the band’s self-titled 1971 live album, McIntire arranged to have an insert included with the packaging that called for fans, 'Dead Heads,' to join their mailing list.
