Description

Two items: a TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Post-Hall Syndicate letterhead, May 4, 1954, in full: "Many thanks for your kind words in praise of Pogo and his friends. Sorry, but it is impossible to obtain back issues of the Pogo comic book, as the Dell publishers' supply has been depleted, and we are down to our office file copies. Two panels taken from Uncle Pogo So-So Stories are enclosed with my deep appreciation for your interest." The second item is the referenced two-panel Uncle Pogo comic strip, 9.75 x 5.25, accomplished in colored pencil and ink by Kelly, who draws two scenes of Pogo Possum and Albert Alligator making sense of how to use a bow and arrow. After Pogo instructs Albert to "reverse the weapon," the second panel depicts the alligator pointing the arrow in the wrong direction, with Pogo exclaiming, "How now! Not quite so, good sir, no quite," and Albert replying, "You is a talky little blagger, isn't you?" Signed in the lower border in fountain pen, "Sincerely, Walt Kelly." In overall very good to fine condition, with light toning to the artwork, and staining and an edge tear to the letter.
