Description

New York politician, businessman, and militia Brigadier General of Dutch descent (1734-1810) who twice served as mayor of Albany, New York. Revolutionary War-dated manuscript DS, signed “Ab'm Ten Broack, President,” one page, 6.5 x 7.75, March 11, 1777. Pay order issued for John Sloss Hobart relating to "The Hon'ble Convention of the State of N. York," in part: "Ordered that the Treasurer of this state pay to John Sloss Hobart Esq'r on his receipt in full for the same, the sum of fourteen pounds, eight shillings for the said two accounts," including "Expenses of the committee...to secure the stock and grain in said county from the Enemy." Signed at the conclusion by Broeck as president of the New York State Convention, and signed on the reverse by Hobart. In fine condition. John Sloss Hobart (1738-1805) was a New York Senator and a District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of New York.
